I completely agree with you, we can't afford to fight a war in a foreign land, any war for that matter given our economic situation. I would say the war we fought in Somalia is a battle where the winner loses more.

WHO statistics shows that in Ethiopia 1 out of 6 children die before the age of five due to diseases that are preventable. We can see the situation this way, the bullet we fire to kill a Somali man could have saved the life of a child in Ethiopia had the money been allocated for the health sector rather than the war, as simple as that. Worse than this, war affected Somali children may get the attention of humanitarian agencies, but, our children whose budget for medics snatched and channeled to sponsor the war who will reach for them?

May God save Ethiopia.

I admire your thorough assessment of our telecom industry, it isn’t a plain talk in fact it is the words of a man who really care about his motherland. The main reason that holds the government from telecom outsourcing is its immature thinking that outsourcing will lead to the collapse of the ETC. As people already have bad experience with the company they will all tend to the other option even with no merit and the government is not ready for such a slap
Have u heard that some people , affiliate to the government, used to communicate using SMS with no charge and some people inside the company release the code and the whole Addis enjoyed chatting for free after one day it is closed, that is the story man

To fight for something one deserve is a morale obligation of every human. We all should ask, why someone or “the government” choose what I hear or see or have? We must stop such act , at least the next generation should live in a free world

Many thanks for your comment

You are right my friend, the brain drain has put us (Ethiopians) in grave danger in relation to our present and future. The positive externalities of our basic and undergraduate education investment are being harvested by the West for free. Ethiopian men and women after receiving their basic and most of the time undergraduate education "flee" for higher education to the west but never come back.

To the contrary due to lack of qualified local staff, we higher expatriates paying dearly. I have heard once that there are more number of Ethiopian trained medical doctors in Atlanta than those serving the nation at the moment. But here we go our genius PM says “Ethiopia does not need medical doctors, let them go wherever they want” while many of the public hospitals are failing to carryout their day-to-day services due to lack of medical doctors.

Dear sekaram 4 life,
I do believe that you have a very immense knowledge of the current politics and economic situations of Ethiopia. One can easily comprehend this from the points that you had illustrated and the explanations you presented. I have something to say about the issue you described at last; the most common and tedious shows in these days in ETV, in relation to Ginbot 20 is to show the heroism of EPLF soldiers in their fight against the Derg. It is very shameful to preach every single minute that EPLF soldiers were heroic and the others were gutless. It was very clear that one of the motivating forces for the war was the cold war. The material and moral supply for each side was coming from US and USSR as it was one of the proxy wars between them. If the end of the cold war was prolonged, whatever frustration and hate of the then regime exist throughout the country, the life of EPLF to stay in their caves would also have been prolonged in the same way. Forgetting this fact and saying that we were heroic makes no sense for me.

You do not have to be affraid about computer crush and failur of banking system cos most of our banks are not wired yet, they are in the stone era yet.

againest this assurance I still insist you to withdraw all of your money from the banks. Not due to fear of computer crush or due to our local Y2K; but due to the sky rocketting inflation. At the current rate the money you kept in the bank 1999 hoping to buy an Ox will not be enough to buy a chicken by the end of 2000.
